Having a baby is exhilarating, nutty at times, and always at least a little exhausting. No matter if you give birth or adopt. If you're soon to be a mama or have recently become a mama by means of adoption, make sure you're following the same basic rules that all mamas need to follow to stay healthy.
  • You need plenty of rest.
  • You need to exercise - yes, you may not have the same belly issues as a mama who just gave birth, but exercise helps you sleep better, gives you energy, and builds your stamina - all things you need to be the best mama ever.
  • You need to eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water.
  • You need to de-stress.
  • You need to get out there and meet other new mamas. I can't speak from experience having never been an adoptive parent, but a couple of friends of mine who did adopt note that they have all sorts of mama friends, they don't limit it to only adoptive parents. That said, one friend of mine says it is nice to have connections with at least one other adoptive couple, because they know what it's like to adopt.
