If you have been there, done that -- what's the point of taking a refresher childbirth class? Childbirth Educator Kira Smith (ICCE) tells you a bit about what you may learn.
Your question
We just had our first baby two years ago, and we're due again in five months. Do you think we need a refresher childbirth class? What is offered at these classes? - Donna in Arlington, MA
The expert answers
A refresher class will give you the opportunity to
practice relaxation and breathing exercises that you may have
forgotten. You may also learn some new labor coping skills. You
will get a quick overview of the birth process and procedures.
You will be able to ask any questions that you may have about
your upcoming birth and about things relating to your last birth.
Another topic covered in refresher classes is how to integrate the new baby into your family and how to help the big sister- or brother-to-be adjust to the new baby. You will also have the chance to meet other couples that are expecting a sibling.
Refresher classes are especially beneficial if you will be delivering at a different hospital than where you had your first child.
