Melissa's story
The day started off normal, no signs or symptoms that my son would be born soon. I had a doctor's appointment that day, so I decided to go shopping before the appointment. Well we went shopping and still no signs or symptoms. Went to the doctors office and everything checked out normal, and he told me he would see me again in two weeks (not what I wanted to hear, I was ready to have the baby!). Well, I went shopping some more after the appointment, and I felt like I had to use the bathroom. When I went, I had noticed I had lost my mucus plug. I thought nothing of it. Everyone told me you could lose your mucus plug weeks before going into labor. Well, I started feeling run down, kind of like I had a cold or something, and it hit me all of a sudden. So I decided to go home.

When I got home, I decided to lay down and rest a bit. When I got up I was fine. I ate supper and was actually planning a nice quite evening! Well at about 7 p.m. the contractions started. I didn't think they were contractions because they didn't hurt, they were just uncomfortable. I started timing them and they were up to five minutes apart, so we decided to head to the hospital since it was 20 minutes away. We got to the hospital at about 7:45 p.m. When I got there they had checked me and I was only dilated to 4 cm, still no pain though.

About 15 minutes went by and I felt the urge to push, so I tell my husband to go and get the nurse. He runs out of the room and runs back in saying the nurse will be here is a minute. The nurse comes in telling me that it was too soon to push I wasn't even fully dilated yet, but I told her to check me anyway. She did and by the look on her face I knew what she was going to say! I was dilated to 10 cm and baby had crowned! But still no pain!

Everyone started rushing around after that and I just kept asking where is my doctor? I was told that he was on his way, but I was getting a little worried. My water hadn't broke so they told me to push to try and break my water; I say it was mainly for them to try and stall the delivery. Well, I pushed for fifteen minutes to break my water and finally it broke. That was the worst part of my labor and delivery, can you believe that!

After what seemed a lifetime my doctor finally shows up and no sooner than he did, I had my 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 1/2 inch long baby boy in my arms! PregnancyAndBaby.com
