*along with all the other important health tips you'll read Do you get tired of reading what you should and shouldn't do during pregnancy? I'll bet it's even more frustrating when one piece of advice you read in one place directly conflicts with another that you read elsewhere! I came across an article in the Sun Times that had some pretty solid advice. It's "old school" if you consider exactly how much advice and how many new studies, many of which I write about here, are floating around. I love the opening paragraphs:
While the lists of pregnancy do’s and don’ts can be extensive, there is one thing women should not lose track of as they go through the process, and that’s enjoying it. That’s the advice of Dr. Susan Acuna, obstetrician/gynecologist on staff with Central DuPage and Delnor Community hospitals.
As I read "the latest" pregnancy news and research studies, I think about how overwhelming being an expectant mom can feel. Of course you have to filter, but still, having so much information -- so much advice -- can be too much. At the same time, knowledge is power and I fully believe in arming yourself with it. That being said, I'd like to share a few of the basic tips offered in the article -- things that you can do while still enjoying your pregnancy:
  • Take your prenatal vitamins
  • Make sure you're consuming the correct amount of calories. You need enough...but you're not literally eating for two!
  • If your doctor okays it, exercise. Make sure you're engaging in exercises that are safe for pregnancy.
So basic, right? But amid scary news that anything in your home affected by chemicals, right on down to your socks, could be dangerous, it's easy to forget the simple things, which are also the things you have the most control over. Do you have any basic pregnancy health tips that you feel are important?
