An introduction My name is Jen and I'm 29 years old. I recently left my job as a 2nd grade teacher to pursue a career in writing. My husband, Rick, works as a Network Engineer for a company in the travel industry. After five and a half years of marriage, we are e
Jacob arrives! I was scheduled to be induced during my 38th week due to my high blood
pressure. We arrived at the hospital at 6:00 a.m. to begin the labor
process. I had really hoped that I would've gone into labor on my own.
After being told I was 50 percent
Week 11 - Stop looking at my stomach It's funny how people's eyes dart right to your stomach when you tell them you're expecting. I've never been the thinnest person, and nothing unnerves me more than having people exam my abdomen to check for signs of a growing baby.
Week 12 - Thanksgiving blessings Thanksgiving was a truly magical holiday for us this year. The last few years, we watched as our siblings and cousins had babies, wondering if we would ever be in that situation. Holidays always seemed to hit me the hardest, but this year, we have
Week 13 – Mixed feelings This week I am feeling so much better. My energy is back, and I can stay up past 8:30 again. My husband was so happy that I was willing and able to cook dinner four nights in a row. Real dinner, not just a bowl of cereal. And I could clean the di
Week 14 - The pouch emerges This week the "pouch" has appeared out of nowhere. Since my second month, my stomach has seemed to bloat each night after dinner. However, this week I became bloated and it never went away.
Week 15 - Growing "perfectly" I celebrated the beginning of my fifteenth week by visiting my doctor. Again, we heard the baby's heartbeat, which was about 145 beats per minute.
I chuckled when my doctor used a ruler to measure my abdomen and told me that I'm growing perfectly
Week 16 -The verdict is in This week we went for an ultrasound to check for any abnormalities. My doctor scheduled it as close to the end of the year as possible, seeing that my insurance changes January 1st and I will no longer be able to have ultrasounds at the doctor's off
Week 17 -The hunt is on Now that we've adjusted to the fact that we are going to have a baby boy, the hunt is on for a nursery theme. Originally, we thought of doing a "wish upon a star" theme, and framing some of our Disney Lithographs that would coordinate.
Week 20 - Who is that staring back at me? Sometimes I forget that I have a little being growing in my belly. When I turn quickly or run up the stairs, I am reminded with a sharp pain or gasping for breath.
Week 21 – There's no turning back I am really going to have a child. After years of wanting nothing else, it will be reality in a little over 4 months. The initial shock of the pregnancy itself wore off after a few weeks, but suddenly the enormity of the situation has hit me all ov
Week 22 - Rolling with the changes It's funny how last week I was so depressed about my size and weight, yet this week I've done a complete turn around. Again I feel comfortable with my body, as if I've suddenly adjusted to it.
Week 23 – Bizarre dreams It seems that all I think about these days is the baby, and I even dream about him too. The other night I dreamt that we were visiting with my family, but I was not the only pregnant one. The entire family was pregnant!
Week 24 - Baby movements The initial thrill of baby movements left me in awe and wonder. Now I keep waiting for what experienced mothers keep telling me about, flipping and hiccups. Neither one of which I've felt yet.
Week 25 – Whirlwind of a week Well, we finally completed our baby registry. What a project that was! I was prepared with a list of items that I needed to register for, which I had discussed ahead of time with my mom. After spending four hours between Target and Babies R Us, I
Week 26 – Back to the drawing board After my blood pressure fiasco last week, I returned to my doctor's office this week for a follow up visit. As soon as the nurse took my blood pressure I knew it was high again.
Week 27 – Spring cleaning time arrives After being on blood pressure medication for a week now, my life has kicked
into relaxation mode! I had no idea that I was feeling so anxious until
after I started taking the medication.
Week 28: Nursery makeover The baby's room got a complete makeover this week. After putting it off for a few months, I finally dragged myself in and spent hours scraping away the old border in the baby's closet that the old owners left because it was so "cute!"
Week 29 - Unexpected news This week's doctor visit brought some surprising news. Due to my high blood pressure, this little one may be coming to meet us far before his June 11th due date.
Week 31 - Nine weeks and counting Wow! It is just amazing how quickly the time is flying. I still think back to October when we learned about this pregnancy, and am amazed that I am really pregnant. The whole first trimester seemed like it passed in a daze.
Week 32 - Positives of child rearing It must be the growing discomfort, or the pregnancy hormones, but this week
my irritation began mounting with the negative comments I have been
receiving.
Week 33 - The baby showers begin Because my husband and I have rather large families, it was decided that we
would have three separate baby showers to accommodate our families and
co-workers.
Week 34 - The end is in sight This week we had our last baby shower. It wasn't held at my house this
time. All we had to do was show up. It was such a relief not to worry
about cleaning my house, so it'll probably stay messy from this point on,
but I'm too tired to be conce
Week 35 – Making progress This week's doctor visit came with more surprising news: I am already 50 percent
effaced and dilated one centimeter. She said that my labor should be fairly
quick as well.
Week 36 - Careful what you wish for This week I really jinxed myself with the bed rest comment. My doctor did
indeed order me to bed rest yesterday at my weekly appointment. Up until
now, he had been telling me to avoid "unnecessary activities."
