4 Wine cork crafts for kids

Motherhood and wine often go hand in hand, but unwinding after the kids are in bed isn’t the only reason to uncork your favorite bottle of vino. From kids crafts like cork mice to cork stamps, discover four wine cork crafts for kids that will give you a good reason to pop open another bottle.

Cork mice

While cork horses and reindeer are fun, these little critters are a slightly easier craft for kids to do on their own, both for the holidays or year-round.

Materials:

  • Cork
  • Pink cardstock or foam
  • Screw
  • String
  • Black marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut two ear shapes from the cardstock and a small length of string for the tail.
  2. Lay cork on its side and have your kiddos glue the ears on either side of the large end of the cork, and the tail on the smaller end of the cork.
  3. Twist the screw into the larger, flat end of the cork for the nose.
  4. Use the black marker to color the screw “nose” and draw two dots for eyes and your cork craft is done!

Cork monsters

There are no set rules when you create cork craft monsters, so let your youngster’s imagination run wild!

Materials:

  • Corks
  • Markers
  • Toothpicks
  • Google eyes, yarn, buttons, bottle caps, felt or anything you can find in your junk drawer (optional)
  • Glue

Directions:

  1. Encourage your youngsters to draw the silliest, scariest or cutest faces they want on the cork.
  2. Use markers or craft odds and ends to decorate their monster cork craft for kids in hair, hats or clothing.
  3. Place a drop of glue on the end of the toothpick and insert into the cork for arms and legs; use a small screwdriver to poke holes for the toothpicks if you’re having trouble getting them in. Then you’ll be ready to display your parade of cork craft monsters all year long!

Cork boats

This cork craft for kids requires a little more adult supervision with the glue gun, but if you have patience, opting for craft glue will give your brood a little more independence with this craft.

Materials:

  • Corks
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Foam sheet or paper for sail
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Markers (optional)

Directions:

  1. Using your glue gun, help your kids glue three corks together side-by-side to form the raft.
  2. Use scissors to create a slit in the middle of one cork to insert the popsicle stick; secure with hot glue to form the raft’s mast.
  3. Cut a sail from the foam sheet for a waterproof sail — or from the paper for a less permanent one — and cut a horizontal slit 1/2″ from the top and the bottom edges.
  4. Slide sail onto popsicle stick and float in the pool, in the tub or invite the neighborhood kids outside for a race down the gutter!

  • Scissors
