Best summer destinations for your family vacation

SheKnows invites you to get out of town this summer. Check out these must-visit family-friendly destinations.

Phoenix

If you can bear the area’s intense summer temperatures, which often rise to 110 degrees F and above, Phoenix is a fantastic place for the whole family. The area’s resorts have great pools/lazy rivers/waterslides and most outdoor shopping centers have a splash pad for young kids. Even the Phoenix Zoo has a few water zones throughout the grounds! Don’t miss the Children’s Museum of Phoenix and the Arizona Museum of Natural History.

Chicago

Chicago is more family-friendly than you might think! The sophisticated city is home to the Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Navy Pier, Millennium Park and so much more. Don’t forget to take a stroll down one of the most famed shopping areas in the country — the Magnificent Mile. And, if your kids like baseball, nothing says “quintessential family vacation memory in the making” like watching a ballgame at Wrigley Field.

San Diego

San Diego offers history, culture, city life and the beach all within a few miles of one another. You could spend the day splashing in the waves or visiting Seaport Village, complete with a historic carousel, kid-friendly dining options and fun shopping. The Gaslamp Quarter encompasses trendy hotels, restaurants and clubs, and Belmont Park is rife with amusement for kids of all ages.

Myrtle Beach

If your family is looking for a calm, relaxing beach-side retreat this summer, set your sights on Myrtle Beach. But keep in mind that the area is more than just a beach getaway. If your family tires of the shore, you can take on adventure and excitement at the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Myrtle Waves Water Park or Ripley’s Aquarium.

Austin

Austin is a melting pot of eclectic dining, outdoor adventures, fabulous landmarks and, of course, music! Interestingly, Austin is home to the largest urban bat population in North America. If that doesn’t creep you out just reading about it, you should really check it out! Austin’s 6th Street is home to all kinds of musical talent (but probably isn’t appropriate at night for super young kiddos). Zilker Park is a great place to enjoy all kinds of adventures in nature including Barton Springs Pool, which is believed to have powers of spiritual healing.
