There’s more than one way to personalize a T-shirt. You can use any number of crafty items and shortcuts to create a customized top that highlights your unique personality.
The creative folks at the Howcast YouTube channel shared dozens of ideas for turning an ordinary T-shirt into a work of art.
Things you may need:
- T-shirt
- Fabric paint
- Paintbrush
- Tie-dye kit
- Scissors
- Elastic
- Ribbon and colored thread
- Trimmings and accessories
Step 1: Paint it
Use fabric paint on your T-shirt to create a fabulous work of art or to write an important message to the world. Young ones can just splatter paint for their own customized shirts.
Step 2: Try tie-dye
Pick up a tie-dye kit at a craft store, or do it yourself with some dyes and strategically placed rubber bands.
Step 3: Cut it
The 1980s movie Flashdance had cool people everywhere taking scissors to their best T-shirts. Grab a pair of scissors and start cutting. Turn short sleeves into cap sleeves, butterfly sleeves or no sleeves at all — or change your crewneck tees into V-necks with just a snip. Leave the neckline unfinished for an edgy look, or finish it off with some colored thread.
Step 4: Lace it
Go for the corset look by cutting two rows of small holes in your T-shirt. Lace your shirt up with ribbon, shoe laces or strips of leather.
Step 5: Bedazzle it
Add beads, buttons, sequins, crystals, patches, fringe, lace, bows, glitter or anything you may have sitting in your catch-all craft bin. Go punk with leather strips, spikes, zippers, safety pins and a few ripped holes.
There is no right or wrong with this craft project. Experiment, and have a blast!
