Creative baby shower themes

A baby shower is an exciting way for expectant parents and their friends and family to celebrate the arrival of the new bundle of joy. Here are some new twists on traditional themes to keep the shower modern and fun!

Traditionally, baby showers have been reserved to the ladies but now the guys are getting the invites too. Men may not like all the traditional shower themes, so here are some themes that are little more gender neutral.

1Classic Children’s Books

Instead of a classic character theme like Winnie the Pooh, look at the broader picture of all classic children’s books to bring liven up this theme. Have everyone bring along a copy of their favorite children’s book for the baby and prepare foods inspired by books. Have some Winnie the Pooh cheese and honey sandwiches with some Good Night Moon tea and a tray of sweets inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The invitations could look like copies of the books with various book covers and play a classic book trivia game at the shower.

2White Party

To make this new mom to be feel chic and relaxed, opt for the all white theme. A popular theme for celebrity parties, this can easily work for a baby shower by having all the guests bring a white baby item like onesies and cloth diapers and hanging them from clothes lines around the party for instant decorations. Have all the guests wear white and to help preserve their clothes serve white foods like angel food cake and Asian inspired rice cakes. Send the guests home with a candy jar full of white M&M’s or a small box with homemade white chocolate truffles.

3Candyland

A spin on the baby shower guessing game, a party featuring candy with ‘baby’ somewhere in the title. Opt for a fun invite that looks like the candy or an invite with the candy attached. Have bowls full of the various candies like Baby Ruth, Baby Bottle Pop and Sugar Babies set around the party to serve as decoration and dessert. Be sure to let the future bundle of joy in on the fun and get some onesies featuring the candies that inspired the shower.

4Go Green

Take this a step further than just having eco-friendly decorations and invites by asking the guests to bring eco-friendly gifts and go sans wrapping. Have fun — keep the decorations green and get the food from local farms through a crop share or by visiting a local farmers market and getting fresh local seasonal produce.

5Bath Time

Ducks, ducks and more ducks. Send out invitations with a rubber bath toy attached or printed on a washcloth. Set up bowls with blue water and float bath toys for a fun centerpiece and use small wash basins for drinks and snacks. Serve bubbly drinks like flavored water and send them home with an imprinted bar of shaped soap.

6Celeb for a Day

Does the guest of honor love everything Hollywood? Have a glitzy cake and research some celebrities’ favorite baby products and get them or some really good look-a-likes as gifts. Play a celebrity baby name game and send everyone home with personalized bottles of sparkling apple cider.

7Let’s Go to The Movies

Serve movie favorites like popcorn, junior mints and nachos and send invites that look like giant ticket stubs. Pick some of the mom-to-be’s favorite baby movies for games and to inspire some of the other food that is served, like Mr. Mom chili.

8ABC’s

Everything you need to know about babies and parenting from A to Z. Keep it fun and offer the new parents a little advice for every letter of the alphabet. Use ABC decorations and decorate cupcakes with the alphabet. Paint small trinket boxes with the first letter of each guests name on the top and the details of the shower on the sides and fill with small candies.
