From butterfly snacks to button bugs, spring bug crafts are a great way to spotlight spring. Whether you’re looking for crafts for kids to celebrate the season of renewal, or looking for indoor activities for the kids when spring showers strike, discover these five spring bug crafts for kids.
Butterfly snack
Looking for a kid’s craft that is charming and edible? This butterfly is so cute you’ll want to gobble it up!
Materials:
- 1 zip-close sandwich bag
- 1 wooden clothes pin
- Paint, markers, or sequins
- 1 pipe cleaner or twist tie
- 2 wiggle eyes
- Craft glue
- Snack mix of your choice
Directions:
- Encourage kids to get creative when they decorate wooden clothes pins with paint, markers or sequins to create the body of the butterfly.
- Once paint is dry, attach wiggle eyes to the “head” of clothes pin with glue.
- Fill sandwich bags loosely with kid-friendly snacks and zip closed.
- Lastly, pinch the snack bag in the middle with decorated clothes pin, being sure to slip the antenna under the pinched pin.
- Optional: Add stickers to the “wings” for more craft fun.

Button bugs
Crafts for kids can be both fun and educational when building your child’s fine motor skills with a spring bug craft that is cute as a button.
Materials:
- Assorted buttons with at least two holes
- 1 pipe cleaner
- 2 small buttons for eyes
Directions:
- Bend a pipe cleaner in a color of your choice in the middle.
- Let your little ones choose assorted buttons to string onto the pipe cleaner, feeding one side of each of the pipe cleaners through the two-hole button.
- For eyes, string a small button on the end of each side of the pipe cleaner
- Last, bend up and curl ends of the pipe cleaner to form antenna.
Bumblebee bookmark
Celebrate spring with a bumblebee bookmark craft that will get your child buzzing about reading. The hardest part will be for your child to decide which book to read first!
Materials:
- 1 popsicle stick
- Yellow and black paint
- Glitter (optional)
- Large yellow pom pom
- 1 black pipe cleaner
- 2 wiggle eyes
- Tacky glue
- White paper
- Scissors
Directions:
- Let your kiddos use black and yellow markers, paint and glitter to color a popsicle stick to look like a bee.
- While the body of the bee is drying, bend a black pipe cleaner in half and curl ends to form antenna, which can be glued to the pom pom with a pair of wiggle eyes.
- Lastly, when all is dry, cut two “wings” from white paper and glue to the body along with the pom pom head.

Bottle cap ladybug magnets
Lovable bottle cap ladybug magnets will remind you of spring when you use your crafts for posting spring memories to your refrigerator!
Materials:
- 1 metal bottle cap
- Red, black and white paint
- Round magnet
- Tacky glue
Directions:
- Paint metal bottle caps with red paint, adding black paint for a head and a line between the wings once red paint has dried.
- Use black paint to create dots on the wings and white paint to create two little eyes on the head.
- Glue a round magnet to the underside of the bottle cap and let dry.
Rock beetle
This rock beetle doubles as both a craft and an activity for kids. Send them outside to gather materials and get a little fresh spring air!
Materials:
- 1 smooth gardening or river rock
- Twigs, pine needles, blades of grass, leaves
- Tacky glue
- Permanent marker (optional)
Directions:
- Glue twigs, pine needles, and/or blades of grass to your rock with tacky glue to form legs and antenna.
- Spark your youngster’s imagination and glue more than one rock or pebble together to create ants, dragonflies and more.
- If you want to make a winged craft bug, glue leaves to your creature.
