SheKnows did some digging to find out which nursery décor trends are particularly hot for baby boys. Sophistication
You might want to think twice about decking out the nursery with darling décor. According to Nina Takesh, co-owner of children’s boutique Petit Trésor, “Boys are no longer blessed with the ubiquitous train and automobile themes. Instead, their nurseries have become an extension of the sophistication of their parents — or shall we say their parents’ designer’s good taste.”
Another benefit to skipping cutesy décor is that your baby won’t quickly outgrow the room. “Creating a room that will grow with the baby and provide long-lasting value makes good sense and saves money and time in the future,” explains Lynette Damir, a mother of two and founder of SwaddleDesigns.

Antique accessories and vintage looks
Parents are increasingly decorating boy nurseries with unique antiques, rather than art and accessories found at mainstream retailers. Takesh, who also designs nurseries, says “We have contributed to the notion of mixing in age-old antiques and mid-century treasures with contemporary children’s furniture. It is also not uncommon to see beautiful artwork adorned with gilded gold frames and tufted gliders covered in rich, silk velvets.”
Monograms
Monograms are also becoming a popular element throughout nurseries because they provide a simple, elegant touch to bedding and décor. “From the bumper to the decorative pillows, nothing brings a room together quite like the sophisticated tradition of displaying, in full sight, one’s initials,” says Takesh.

The colors brown and gray
Although blue is the color traditionally associated with a boy’s nursery, brown is popping up more and more in color schemes. Damir explains that shades of brown work well for a boy’s nursery because they are comforting, can last well into the child’s toddler or teen years, and coordinate with other colors like greens and blues.
Gray is another trending color in nursery décor for boys, but Damir warns that parents should be careful about how they use it. “Gray is a very adult color, and while it can be cute with toddlers and older children, with an infant it can be cold and depressing if used too much. Accents of gray, however, can look pure, crisp and clean, especially in combination with white, brighter blues or navy for boys,” she explains.
When decorating a nursery for your baby boy, it certainly helps to know what the experts say works and what doesn’t, but don’t forget to consider your own tastes and style. Focus on creating a nursery that will make you and the baby feel welcome and comfortable, not just stylish.
