What’s the buzz on Leonardo DiCaprio’s new charitable coffee line?
As if we need another reason to love Leonardo DiCaprio… or coffee! The actor is teaming with acclaimed coffee roasters, La Colombe Torrefaction, to promote its LYON blend. But it’s not just an average cup o’ joe.
The designated blend is definitely “coffee with a cause,” as 100 percent of the net profits will be donated to charities supported by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. That includes projects that defend lands and oceans, clean water, help endangered species, aid disaster relief and support alternative and green energy efforts.
LYON coffee, said to be “velvety, nectar-like and sweet,” is available at select Williams Sonoma stores, La Colombe Cafes, select Whole Foods stores and online. La Colombe blends directly sourced and sustainably grown coffee from the mountains of Haiti, Peru, Ethiopia and Brazil. That sounds like a good way to start the day!

The generosity is the chain’s way of introducing its new onion rings to the public. I had their new fries recently (we’ll call it “research”) and they were good! Visit Burger King’s Facebook page and “like” them to enter to win a $10 gift card, find out about participating locations and tell your friends.
Just think, if all your Super Bowl guests bring their own onion rings, that’s one less snack for you to make!

The steaks are high. Are you willing to pay the price?
A steak dinner will likely cost you even more these days, thanks to events in the recent past. That’s right. It’s catching up to us.
Have you noticed steak prices steadily creeping higher over the last few months? Well, you can expect them to continue to go up through 2012. Blame the public for moving away from beef for its meals or blame it on the weather and droughts in Texas and Oklahoma that devastated pastures and livestock.
Whatever you blame it on, if you want your steak, get ready to pay the price. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there is less beef in the U.S. (although the export of beef to foreign countries is expected to continue to rise in 2012) and the prices for what is available are increasing for consumers.
What’s a steak lover to do? Cut back on your consumption of meat! We know cutting back on meat consumption is a growing — and healthy — trend. You might even discover foods you enjoy more than steak.
