Shakira confirms pregnancy, cancels iHeartRadio performance

The 35-year-old singer announced today that she and her boyfriend are having a baby. But the news means she won’t be able to make it to Las Vegas this weekend.

The Buzz – Shakira Drops Out of iHeartRadio; Announces She’s Pregnant
With the iHeartRadio Music Festival just around the corner, concert go-er’s were getting excited to watch Shakira do her thing! But the singer canceled her performance at the last minute, announcing that she’s pregnant!

It has been months since people began speculating about whether Shakira might be pregnant, and today on her Facebook page, the singer finally announced that the rumors are true.

“As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” she said. “At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.”

One of those activities included her planned performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas this weekend. She wants to make sure her fans know she will be there in spirit, though. “I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular, and I will be closely following everything that happens there,” she said. “I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding.” She posted the message in both English and Spanish on her Facebook page, which has over 54 million followers.

The 35-year-old Colombian singer has been dating soccer player Gerard Pique for over a year, according to ABC News. Just last week, the singer stirred up the pregnancy rumors when she posted a photo of herself and her family that had been cut off above the stomach. According to Perezitos.com, the photo was posted on Twitter and then quickly deleted.

Shakira’s life is changing in more than one way. Just this week, it was announced that she would be joining The Voice along with Usher. The two will be taking over for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green next season, since the latter two are leaving for one season to pursue different aspects of their careers. Christina and Cee Lo both plan to return in Fall 2013.

Shakira has not mentioned how far along she is nor how this might affect The Voice‘s schedule.

Just because you don’t have tickets (and you’re bummed Shakira canceled), doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun!

SheKnows will be covering the red carpets, concerts and after parties, so be sure to check out all the coverage, all weekend long.
