Familiar faces dominate 2012 Tony Award nominations

The nominees for the 2012 Tony Awards have been revealed. The list is filled with film and TV stars including a Sex and the City alum, Darth Vader and Spider-Man. See who else made the cut for Broadway’s biggest night!

Once Broadway

Are you ready for some razzle-dazzle courtesy of the Tony Awards? This morning, they announced the nominees for the 2012 ceremony, which features some of Hollywood’s elite.

Once leads the pack with 11 nominations including best musical and best performance by an actor and actress in a leading role (Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti).

But they’ve got stiff competition from stage veterans James Earl Jones and Frank Langella, who are also up for acting awards.

One nominee (best performance by an actor in a featured role ) that’s less known but still familiar is Christian Borle, who currently stars on NBC’s Smash.

Coincidentally, the TV drama is a musical set against the backdrop of Broadway. Therefore, Borle was perfectly cast as theatrical composer Tom Levitt.

Other notable nominees include Stockard Channing, Cynthia Nixon, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Andrew Garfield.
