Lady Gaga launched her much-anticipated Born This Way Foundation today at Harvard University among such luminous company as Oprah and Deepak Chopra. What are her hopes for the charity?
She’s on the right track, baby — Lady Gaga has officially launched her Born This Way Foundation.
The superstar set her charitable project loose on the world at Harvard today with a little help from her pal Oprah Winfrey, who she actually had to correct about the three pillars of the Foundation. Apparently it is not “bravery, acceptance and love.”
“Those are… well, those are three important aspects of the foundation,” Gaga gently corrected the media icon, “but the three pillars are ‘SSO.’ Remember these things today, it would make me very, very happy: Safety. Skills. Opportunity.”
“I want to help, I want to be brave, I want there to be more tolerance in the universe,” Lady Gaga said of her “youth-empowerment” foundation. “I want there to be more acceptance. What I realize more than anything was that I never wanted this dialogue to end.”
“This is about transformative change in culture over a period of time,” she said.
And if you’re anywhere near a Lady Gaga concert this year, be on the lookout for the Born Brave Bus. Basically a massive traveling tailgate party, the bus will travel with the tour and serve as a hangout for kids who just want to shoot the breeze about life and inspiration.
“It will welcome anyone from any walk of life, whether you have a ticket to the show or you don’t, to come and hang out and talk about love, acceptance, kindness and so forth,” she said.
As for her dreams for the group, Gaga said she’s simply looking for simple changes.
“When I say it takes very little to change the world,” she explained, “I really mean that. If each one of us just transformed one small bit of ourselves to be a bit kinder, more loving, more tolerant… I believe it will be quite easy to change the world. The only problem is, there’s so damn many of us.”
“Change could be 50 years from now,” she said. “And if I’m dead, I don’t give a s***, I just hope it happens.”
