Actor Jeremy Renner is uninjured after a group of men attacked his friends, leaving one friend with life-threatening injuries.
Life imitated art for Jeremy Renner when he — along with a group of pals — were brutally attacked at a beach bar in Phuket, Thailand early Thursday. The actor — currently in Southeast Asia filming the next installment of the Bourne series — was celebrating a bit of down time when six staffers at the Rachada Pub attacked his group.
Renner was able to get out without injury, but a friend is in serious condition after one assailant attacked him with a homemade rotor ax. “He was at the bar when the fight broke out and he exited,” his rep confirmed to E!
The fight broke out around 4:30 a.m. when Renner’s pal, the Sri Panwa Resort general manager, Vorasit Issara, dropped a glass on the floor, according to the Phuket Gazette. Six men — ranging in age from 18 to 33 — then attacked Issara, leaving him with severed tendons in his neck and serious stab wounds on his stomach.
All six men were arrested and are now charged with attempted murder, according to the Gazette.
We’re happy that Renner wasn’t injured and can resume his takeover of the Bourne film franchise from Matt Damon.
“My character is called Aaron Cross,” Renner told Empire in November. “He ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.”
He’s not replacing Damon; instead, it’s a whole new reboot that Bourne fans will appreciate.
“It’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.”
