Tom Hanks and Paul Giamatti get giddy with SheKnows

by

Tom Hanks and Paul Giamatti had the press corps in stitches at the Television Critics Association Awards July 19 — but hey, these funny guys have a lot to be happy about… and they told SheKnows all about it.

These guys are a laugh a minute! In addition to taking home two TCA Awards that night, their HBO miniseries “John Adams” swept the Emmy nominations this year with 23 nods!

Both stars were found delightfully frank as SheKnows got a few moments with each to chat about their big night.

“I got the news by email, and went to In-n-Out Burger to celebrate,” Lead Actor nom Paul Giamatti told us at the TCA Awards cocktail hour. As tasty as California’s fave burger chain is, we can only assume he was joking — but Giamatti certainly meant it when he thanked his costars and crew for carrying him through the “nutbusting” task of making the epic miniseries.

We found Hanks equally ebullient and ready to share the spotlight when we caught up with him moments later. “The entire PlayTone galaxy of stars is thrilled,” the exec producer raved, referring to his production company (the same name as the record label in the business’ first movie production, “That Thing You Do“).

“We don’t quite know what to do. It was a bit of a shell shock! We’re even competing with ourselves in a bunch of categories! We were very glad to have one director (Emmy nominee Tom Hooper) and one screenwriter (Emmy nom Kirk Ellis) for the entire series. For Tom and Kirk, but also everyone who worked on it.”

With so many members of the John Adams team to congratulate, who did Hanks call when he woke up to the news? “I called my agent and told him if we don’t win all 23, he’s fired!” Hanks teased. “It’d be bad news for him!”
