Have an easy labor

Well, not easy per say; but easier with this book by William Camann, M.D and Kathryn J. Alexander, M.A.

Easy Labor: Every Woman’s Guide to Choosing Less Pain and More Joy During Childbirth is a book that covers all the different types of pain relief that are available for labor. From traditional to medical this book covers all the pain techniques.

cover4.jpgI’m torn about this book because the authors are a bit epidural happy. They also at times discuss birth as something that can be totally pain free — which I’m sorry is just not natural. Birth is painful and yes we can have the option of an epidural birth now and some holistic methods can offer such relaxation that pain vanishes as well.

I just worry that this book may make women feel like they need a pain free birth when some pain during certain situations is justified. Birth is one of those times.

But on the other hand they don’t come across as forcing women to come right out and have an epidural or even pain meds. They also discuss doulas, birth centers, and why more women want holistic pain relief like water births and birthing balls. Tha’s all good news.

Also I have met some women who are very scared of birth. It does not make for a calm pregnancy — if knowing about all the pain options might help you to relax than that’s a good reason to read this book.

So I’d say that this book offers a happy medium for women who aren’t yet sure about what type of pain relief might be best for them during labor. When you’re going to have a baby I believe that you should have all the options in your head and this book will do that. This book leans more towards medical than natural but not horribly so like I’ve seen some book do.

If you’re looking for a book that lays out a lot of different ideas for pain relief this is one you can check out.
