Baby flat head

No one wants their baby to have a flat head; but with all that down time, a flat head, technically known as plagiocephaly, doesn’t take too long to develop. Here’s how to avoid it.

baby flat headGive her tummy time often - more than once a day. Usually health care providers recommend upwards of 1 to 2 five minute tummy time sessions a day from birth to two months, and 3 five minute tummy time sessions per day for babes over two months.

Don’t always feed her in the same position. If she favors one crook of your arm, it can cause one side of her head to flatten more. Switch sides when feeding and holding.

Place your playpen, crib, and changing table in a spot where you can easily lay your baby either way. Switching your baby around so that her head points the opposite direction can help a lot.

What not to do: Lay her on her tummy to sleep. Better a flat head than a SIDS risk. Always place your baby on her back to sleep.
