If you and your partner know that your having a bouncing boy, or an adorable girl; keep it mum. It will save you some money.
Once you tell people the gender of your baby, you can forget about getting useful baby items. For the most part, folks will get you pink and blue items — often clothing.
My best girlfriend was having a girl, and she told everyone. She also explicitly asked people to NOT get her pink baby clothing. She actually had it added to the baby shower invites I believe.
She’s not a pink fan, plus she needed other items, not baby clothing. Guess how many people got her pink baby clothes as a gift? I think everyone but me. People can’t help it. They just want to get those gender specific clothes.
I knew I was having a boy but told no one. I got no blue baby clothes, but did get lots of useful items I needed. The clothes I received were perfect for a boy or a girl.
So, if you want items like diapers, blankets — maybe even something really good like a car seat or nice stroller — tell no one. (Or, announce the gender at your shower!)
