Spring hair trend: Pastels!

I’m so excited to be bringing you my first of many columns, to try to inspire you and help you grow into the fashion flowers you are all meant to be! What’s up this month? Beauty tips for taking the spring pastel trend to your hair with pastel hair color!

Charlotte Free with pink hair

Spring is finally here! So what does it mean for your hair? Word on the street is that it’s all about color! For hair, we are all inspired by the supermodel Charlotte Free, seen on the catwalks of Vivienne Westwood and Jeremy Scott, and her fluctuating pastel pink hue.

Commitment phobe? Don’t want to commit to bold colors? Get an equally awesome and trendy look with Hair Flairs Color Rub temporary colors ($13)!

This look can be achieved at home with semi-permanent hair colors, but is best achieved by your competent colorist – I suggest whenever playing with chemicals to always seek help from a professional because you will save yourself money, time and the quality and integrity of your hair.

Get the look

  1. Pick or have your colorist suggest a color that is good for your skin tone. For example, if you’re pink-skinned, a pale green is not going to be that flattering.
  2. Consider your natural color: If you are already blonde, then you are in a good place to start, but if you are brunette, then there is some bleaching to be done.
  3. Remember, you should remove most of the pigment (see, that part is scary, so having a professional do it for you would be best!). Here’s what will happen if you skip this step and go straight for the color: If you have any yellow tones, they will make pale blues turn green or turquoise, and turn pinks into oranges; it’s a little tricky.
  4. To experience this look temporarily without damage, try some Nordic hair extensions. They have great pastels and you can find a certified hair stylist in your local area at nordichair.com, or come visit me at Fred Segal Salon in Santa Monica. This is a great way to get a flash or two of the look without the nightmare of the damage.

My hot picks for your spring hair care

N4 high performance hair care. Number four is 100 percent gluten-free, vegan, sulphate and sodium chloride- free. What does that mean for you? It’s not harmful to your bloodstream and is color and UV protecting. Plus, it won’t harm your Brazilian or keratin treatments and won’t harm keratin bonds if you are still wearing extensions. Their hydrating body lotion, brushable “Mighty Hairspray” and blow dry lotion are must-haves.

Super Solano 3600 blow dryer. This is the hottest (literally) blow dryer and with it, you can’t go wrong! Try out their flat irons too. I have one I’ve used every day for two years. Now that’s a quality hair care product.

Well that’s all for now. Have a great spring season, be kind to others and be kind to yourself!
