Bold brows: How to get the look

The thin, perfectly shaped and meticulously plucked eyebrows that we have worked so hard to achieve are making room for a new brow trend. This year, thin is out, and big, bold brows are back in. Make a statement with this fun and easy-to-achieve look.

The look

If you look to the runway fashions right now, stylists are spending more and more time building up brows than they have in the recent past. Some are reminiscent of old Hollywood and fashion icons such as Twiggy and a young Brooke Shields, while others are more daring and incorporate bedazzled decorations and colors into a full-out eyebrow design. While the daring runway styles are exciting, they may not translate well to a Tuesday at the office. Luckily, working a bushy, bold brow into your look is a simple way to update your style.

Go bold

The good news: Fuller, more-natural eyebrows require less waxing and tweezing. Unfortunately, they are not completely maintenance free. They should still be groomed, and stray hairs should be eradicated. Think more about going for an Elizabeth Taylor natural, rather than Chewbacca. If you already have full brows, then a cute way to give them a little extra boost is to simply brush them up.

If you are moving away from pencil thin brows and are planning to do a major brow change-up, then you may want to get the help of a professional to achieve the shape that you want. You can take control of your new brow look by maintaining at home, which is a great way to save a little cash!

To keep up the look at home, make sure you have a good pair of tweezers. Pluck strays slowly and one at a time — it’s easy to get carried away. Avoid the unibrow and excessive tweezing by using a wax or hair removal cream at home. There are plenty of easy-to-use, inexpensive options at any drug store. If you’re not sure where to start, try a well-known brand that offers lots of options. Nair’s Face Roll-On Wax Kit is a popular choice that’s easy on delicate skin and rinses clean quickly.

Add some color

Take the bold look a little further by adding color to your brows. The best way to do this is to color up a few shades darker than your natural eyebrow shade. Instead of using your old eyebrow pencil, though, try using eyeshadow instead. The result will be a more blended and consistent look.

When it comes to bold brows, the final touch is making sure your makeup is right. Opt for a clean, nude palette that doesn’t compete with your new brow style. In general, it’s best to go bold with only one facial feature at a time to keep your look from appearing overdone. In this case, it will also make your brows and your eyes really pop.
