7 Skin crisis solutions for busy moms

Busy moms are talented multitaskers, but we don’t really need to add skin crises to our list of things to manage. These helpful tips and product ideas address the most common skin nightmares, so even the busiest mom can put her best face forward.

1Get rid of scars.

No matter how old your scars are, you can smooth and fade them. We like ScarAway’s new Scar Diminishing Serum. Available online and at drugstore chains nationwide, the portable click-and-go wand dispenses serum that fades scars over time.

2Eliminate the foundation mask.

The older we get, the more our skin needs foundation coverage. Unfortunately, the more foundation we use, the older we look. Foundation tends to settle in the very wrinkles and creases we’re trying to hide. Opt instead for a light, tinted moisturizer. The hint of color will enliven your complexion, camouflage age spots and even out your complexion, while the moisturizing agent gives your skin a much-needed drink.

3Stop the shine.

We shouldn’t set one foot outside without first applying sunscreen, but some products are so heavy and greasy. Fight the harsh rays of the sun and the shine with Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 30. The tube and brush fit right in your purse, and an occasional dusting keeps your complexion safe, matte and shine-free.

4Open up the pores.

If you want your skin to stay fresh and not oily, learn to love a spray toner. Anyone who’s prone to acne, clogged pores or sweating knows that dealing with oily skin is a constant battle. Combat this by carrying an alcohol-free spritz and spraying yourself several times a day, even over your makeup. A spray toner will cleanse the pores of oil and dirt while hydrating and refreshing the skin. Look for toners with ingredients such as tea tree, rosemary, lemon, grapefruit, chamomile and eucalyptus oils. One to try: Cecilia Wong Skincare’s Rejuvenating Toner. It soothes skin, acts as an antiseptic and increases energy supply in the skin.

5Be free of dry, irritated skin.

Anyone who’s experienced dry, red and flaking skin can attest to the fact they they’d do anything for some relief. Seaweed Body Butter from the Seaweed Bath Co. combines the powerful nutrients of seaweed extract with moisturizing ingredients designed to help irritated, cracked skin. The body butter formula glides smoothly over elbows, knees, hands and feet for immediate hydration and relief.

6Improve circulation.

Get moving for good skin, says Allison Evans, editor of FitandFabLiving.com. “If you remain sedentary for most of the day, you could end up with bad skin,” says Evans. “Moving around increases circulation and promotes healthy skin.” At the very least, get up every half hour and walk around for 10 minutes. You’ll look and feel so much better.

7Nourish your skin.

You are what you eat. No matter how many creams and serums you buy to beautify your skin, says Evans, it’s what you put into your body that matters at the end of the day. “Your skin is a reflection of how you treat your body. If you eat a well-balanced diet with proper vitamins and nutrients, your skin will glow, and you will have a beautiful complexion.”
