Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel too thin

One of the Victoria’s Secret Angels is taking a lot of criticism on her super-thin body. Should Candice Swanepoel get fired for being too thin?

Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel is facing some serious scrutiny after she appeared at a Victoria’s Secret swimsuit debut looking, well, emaciated.

South Africa-born Sanepoel, 22, appeared alongside fellow models Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles – and managed to make them look positively plump. That’s saying something: Lima and Ambrosio are both super skinny, too.

“I am healthy and happy,” Swanepoel told the New York Daily News through her rep. “I’m heartened to know how much everyone cares about me, but in this case, everything is normal and good.”

She insists her skinny, skinny frame is due to stress and traveling, and she claims to have a healthy outlook on diet and exercise.

“I work out a lot. I box. I’m obsessed with it,” Swanepoel recently told Hollyscoop.com. “It helps a lot with traveling, you know, to be strong and carry on with everything.”

Apparently, Swanepoel’s job with Victoria’s Secret might be threatened if she doesn’t gain some weight, stat. A source told E! that VS requires its models to be both “muscular and healthy.”

“There are really clear criteria for Angels and the catalog. The career path is Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, then to Angel; it’s the highest-paying contract there is, period. The image is about being voluptuous. It’s not fat, but it’s curvy,” the source said. “But if you start to look skinny and ‘editorial print-like’ — like fashion mag models, like undernourished — it gives an image the company does not want.”

Is Victoria’s Secret talking a load of crap, though?

Sure, the models are a bit curvier than their runway counterparts, but they’re hardly “typical woman” weight. The VS Angels curves seem to be limited to their boobs.

What do you think: Is Victoria’s Secret being two faced, or are we the ones making too big of a deal out of this?
