Get Knitting For Baby!

What was once a necessary skill for every woman -- and many men, particularly fishermen -- has become an enjoyable and relaxing hobby and art. (Some star knitters include Julia Roberts, Goldie Hawn and Hillary Swank.)

A baby-sized piece, whether a sweater, blanket or hat, is a good starting project because it can be finished quickly. If you're interested in learning to knit, many local yarn shops have classes for all levels, or you can ask a friend or relative to teach you. But be warned: Once you get going, you may never want to stop!

For sheer inspiration, look for some recent child-focused knitting books, such as A First Book of Knitting for Children by Bonnie Gosse and Jill Allerton, Knitting for Baby by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas, Simple Knits for Cherished Babies by Erica Knight, and just about any Debbie Bliss
