In it's about time news, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted unanimously this week to impliment new mandatory standards for full-size and non-full-size baby cribs as mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). Seriously? It is about time. Over 11 million dangerous cribs have been recalled since 2007 alone. Consider also that federal crib standards haven't even been updated in nearly 30 years and you've got a ton of parents having to deal with unsafe baby cribs. Once the new guidelines are implemented, companies making baby cribs will have to use the following standards...
- Not manufacture or sell dangerous, traditional drop-side cribs
- Make mattress supports stronger.
- Make sure that crib hardware is more durable.
- Use more rigorous safety testing.
