Jimmy Fallon and the Oscars: Not happening!

Stop the presses! Jimmy Fallon and the Oscars are a no-go. The comedian and actor has passed on hosting the 2013 ceremony. With him out of the running, Hollywood’s biggest night is left in limbo.

Sorry guys, Jimmy Fallon won’t liven up the Oscars. The comedian has debunked the hosting rumors regarding next year’s telecast.

While speaking to Today‘s Matt Lauer in an interview from the London Olympic Games, Fallon set the record straight.

“I’m not gonna do the Oscars,” he said. “I was honored to be asked by the Academy, but it’s not my year.” Last week, Fallon and Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels were eyed as possible contenders to take over the 2013 show. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

According to The Wrap, the duo were in talks with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences but couldn’t reach an agreement.

There are several factors that could have nixed the deal but many suspect ABC wasn’t keen on a rival network’s (NBC) star emceeing one of their most-watched programs.

Either way, it’s unfortunate they couldn’t work it out. Fallon’s no stranger to the awards circuit. He got rave reviews when he hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2010. That show gained an additional 200,000 viewers from its previous year. He’s likeable, funny and the perfect bridge between older and younger audiences.

This year, the Oscars were hosted by Billy Crystal, who received mixed reviews. But he was better than newbies Anne Hathaway, and James Franco whose 2011 stint was universally panned. What’s an Oscar fan to do?
