5 Tips to find work-life balance

by

You want to have it all, but being superwoman at home and at work can really drain your energy. Between deadlines, soccer practice and keeping everything good with hubby, there often aren’t enough hours in the day. There really is a way to balance your work and home lives, and it’s easier than you’d think. Here are a few tips to finding and maintaining the work-life balance you’ve been looking for.

balancing work and home
1Keep a schedule and stick to it

Between the hours of 9 and 5, you’re a professional. Sure, calls from sick kids might come in during the day and you should answer them. Otherwise, during the day, keep the focus on your work. After 5 p.m., embrace being a mother. Pick the kids up from school, take them to their appointments and cook dinner. Setting strict time barriers for work and family allows you to devote your best to both.

2Turn off the cell phone during family time

Technology has found a way to be a part of our lives 24/7. While that leads to many good things, getting work emails and calls during dinner is invasive. More importantly, it takes away precious time from your family. When family time is sacred, treat it as such. Unplug and unwind with the people you love the most.

3Make the most of your time

Don’t procrastinate. When you’re at work, it’s easy to say you’ll focus on that project after you’ve had some time to relax at home. However, when you take your work home with you, you’re taking away time from your family. Likewise, take care of what your family needs at night and on the weekends. Bringing your personal life to work looks unprofessional and will only add to your stress.

4Understand what you’re working for

Sure, you probably get a lot of gratification from doing a job well done, but ultimately, most of us are working for money. You’re working to afford the best things and experiences for your family. Keeping that in mind will make you give it 100 percent in the office and when you come home.

5Find time for you

Whether it’s heading to get a pedicure or going for that five mile run, finding time for yourself will help clear your head. When you’re done, you’ll be able to focus on what’s important at work and home. Never forget that you are your own person, and that you too need TLC every now and then!
