In a day where our kids are as glued to the internet, their iPod and Game Boys as we are, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find time to spend together without the use of an electronic device.
Instead of spending another evening watching TV, try one of these four adorable projects with your kids! Each DIY requires few materials and is super-easy, so kids and adults of all ages can do them.
Handprint card
If you’re looking for a very easy, quick DIY for your younger kids (think preschool age), this is the perfect craft. This handprint card doesn’t require any special skills or materials — just paint, construction paper and some scissors. You can also add feathers, beads, rhinestones or glitter to add more pizzazz.

These projects are a great way to spend real time with your family while also crafting fun things they’ll love to use and play with. Plus, each project is really budget-friendly so you don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a ton of fun.
Candy necklace
If there’s one easy way to get your kids to join you in a crafting project, include candy! This tasty project is as fun to eat as it is to make. Plus, this can be completely customized to your kids’ tastes, allergies and preferences. If you don’t like ring candy, you can easily poke a hole through jelly beans, large gummy bears and Starbursts as well.
For this necklace, here’s what you’ll need:
- 4-5 packages of flavored ring candy
- 1-2 boxes of circle cereal (like Apple Jacks or Cheerios)
- 6 strings of multi-colored string or floss

Confetti and bead launcher
This is a great project to do around big celebratory events, like New Year’s Eve, 4th of July, graduations or birthday parties, or any place you’d normally use confetti. The wonderful thing about this project is that it costs close to nothing to make, especially if you make your own confetti. Plus, you don’t need a fancy launcher — in fact, you can use an old paper towel roll!

Flower prints
This is the perfect spring project, especially if you have a lush garden full of different kinds of blooms. Not only is this a fun craft for kids, it’s also a great way to spruce up plain white throw pillows, plates, mugs and frames. This project takes about an hour and only requires four materials. This is a great idea for a girl’s birthday party — just provide the guests with plain white cloth or fabric to decorate.
