Simple s’mores pie recipe

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. Kids love getting into the spirit, too. This easy to make pie is a favorite of adults and kids alike. As an added bonus, it’s so simple that your kids can do most of the work, so when this pie is done baking, it’s truly something they can say they made themselves!

S'mores pie

While the true history of s’mores is unknown, likely because of the tendency to pass camping recipes by word of mouth, the first s’mores recipe appeared in print in the Girl Scout Handbook in 1927. Regardless of the true origins of the sweet campfire favorite, it’s become an American tradition for both outdoorsy types and those of us who prefer our fires with a chimney.

Simple s’mores pie recipe

Serves 8 – 10

Ingredients:

  • 3-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, divided
  • 2-1/2 sticks butter, divided and melted
  • 2 (3.9 ounce) boxes chocolate fudge pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 4 ounces whipped topping
  • 1 (10 ounce) bag jumbo marshmallows

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine half the graham cracker crumbs with half the butter and press into a 9-inch pie plate to create a crust; then bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, slowly mix the milk with the pudding mix on high for two minutes. Add the whipped topping to the pudding and combine well. Let the mixture set for at least five minutes.
  4. Set the oven to broil.
  5. Add the pudding mixture to the pie crust, pressing and smoothing the mixture as needed.
  6. Mix the remaining graham cracker crumbs and butter and sprinkle on top of the pudding mixture.
  7. Top the pie with enough marshmallows to cover the top completely.
  8. Place the pie in the oven to broil the marshmallows. (Leaving the door cracked a bit will allow you to keep a close eye on them.)
  9. Remove the pie from the oven. Serve immediately and enjoy warm toasty marshmallows with cold pudding or pop individual slices in the microwave to heat through.
