We covet contemporary designer Rachel Comey’s downtown cool meets uptown chic designs, so we were especially eager to see her perfectly styled models walk down the runway as she opened New York Fashion Week.

What we saw

So far, the fashion trend this fall is all about menswear-inspired pieces with a modern girly twist. Comey carried the black and white Spring 2012 trend into her newest collection with structured jackets, straight black and white pants, 3/4-length shirts and crew sheer socks pulled all the way up with skirts. Essentially, everything screamed “girly Mad Men.”

Our favorite piece

The shoes! Rachel Comey is most known for her chunky shoes and wooden-heeled boots. This season, she stuck with her menswear theme with black and white leather sneaker/oxford combos. “Snoxfords” as we’re calling them. We hope these are a trend everywhere.

What you’ll see in street style

This fall, you will continue to see refined pieces with a cool and grungy edge. For example, classic little black dresses will be replaced with leather perforated frocks. As we saw with Comey, sky-high pointed heels will most likely be replaced with chunky ankle boots and platforms.
