Spring style trends to look forward to

Just because the snow is falling doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to warmer times. Spring will be here before you know it (seriously), so we thought we’d get a head start on 2012 style trends to look forward to. Here we break down five fashionable ways to embrace spring once it arrives.

Fun florals

Our fascination with florals has yet to wane. In fact, petal power seems to be gaining even more momentum as a must-have spring style trend. We saw variations of beautiful blooms from Jason Wu, Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler just to name a few and we can’t wait to get fashionably floral once the snow melts.

Roaring ’20s

Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and Ralph Lauren all embraced the flirty flapper look and went back in time to the roaring ’20s with several of their Spring 2012 runway looks. We attribute some of the affinity for this stylish decade to the upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Updates on fun flapper dresses, dropped waists and fringe were all on offer making the ’20s this spring’s go-to decade.

Pretty pastels

We can’t help but think of soft pastels when we think of spring – and we’re not alone. Sorbet-inspired shades were on offer at Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and 3.1 Phillip Lim, all of whom embraced pretty lilacs, pale pinks and barely-there blues. Perfect for warmer months, Easter egg-inspired hues are both versatile and feminine.

Stylishly sporty

Get ready to get sporty this spring. Sportswear-inspired styles popped up at several runway shows, including Rag & Bone, Bill Blass and Victoria Beckham. From preppy sweatshirts and sleek track jackets to sporty stripes and clean lines on everything from pants to dresses, it’s time to embrace your inner (or outer) athlete.

Bright and bold

Narciso Rodriguez, Carolina Herrera and Altuzarra all sent a variety of bold hues down the runway, which we think is a great way to start a new season, sartorially speaking. Royal blue, sunny yellow, vibrant orange and get-noticed green all made an appearance as sophisticated separates in cute color block pieces or fashion forward dresses. It’s going to be an eye-catching season ahead and that’s just the way we like it!
