The at-home liquid facelift

Popular among the celebrities these days have been “liquid facelifts”, which is a combination of Fraxel (or a high-end skin-correcting laser treatment), Botox and a line filler such as Restylane or Juvederm to fill in lines and wrinkles. For those of us who might not be able to get to the plastic surgeon or dermatologist for this treatment cocktail, here is a version you can do at home:

High-level exfoliation

Do a series of high-level exfoliation treatments. Combine an at-home microdermabrasion with a light chemical peel, such as a glycolic or lactic acid peel. If you have sensitive skin, wait 1-2 days after manual exfoliation to apply a glycolic to your skin.

Wrinkle freezing cream

Try an at-home wrinkle freezing cream, such as Peter Thomas Roth instant Firmx or Freeze 24/7. These creams work temporarily to fill in and reduce the look of wrinkles using a combination of peptides or GABA (gamma amino-butyric acid). GABA is a natural chemical with the unique purpose of relaxing muscles and stopping the movement of facial muscles. These creams can be used on crows feet, forehead lines or nasal-labial folds. While they won’t have the long-term effect of injectable wrinkle freezers and fillers, they work great for the day or night.

Skin-smoothing primer

Next, apply a skin-smoothing primer. Skin primers contain dimethicone (a form of silicone) that creates a smooth canvas on your face and can even fill in lines and wrinkles. Some skin primers can be used in lieu of foundation, such as Too Faced Primed and Poreless or Miracle Skin Transformer.

Peppermint oil

Finally, create the look of full lips without injections by applying peppermint oil to your lips or a lip plumping gloss that contains cinnamon or peppermint oil already. The peppermint oil stimulates your lips and causes a temporary plumping effect. Finish with a shimmery lipstick or gloss. These contain light-reflecting particles that make your lips look fuller and moist.
