Julie Newmar gets a bit catty about Dark Knight Rises

Julie Newmar doesn’t think The Dark Knight Rises is anything worth bragging about. The original Catwoman calls it as she sees it — rawrrrr!

“In a way” Julie Newmar does not like the evolution of the Batman series, including The Dark Knight Rises. The polite, but brutally honest feedback comes from the original Catwoman herself, 46 years after her bad kitty debut.

“It’s dark,” Julie Newmar commented of Dark Knight, perhaps paying a backhanded compliment for the apt name. “I think we had so much fun in the ’60s, 1966 to 1968. And then Vietnam came and things sort of got darker and darker and darker.”

Something else not sitting quite right with Julie Newmar? Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway‘s high-tech attire.

“What with all the costumes that they have to wear now, there’s a lot that you can’t see anymore,” the 78-year-old told Yahoo’s The Yo Show. “You know, when you have everything sort of padded out and very macho and all that kind of thing. It’s as if the costume acts for you.”

“I remember sitting back in the fight scenes,” she went on to say during the interview. “Catwoman would just kind of sit there in the fight scenes and she just sort of file her nails like that. She couldn’t be bothered with all that nonsense.”

It’s noteworthy to point out at this juncture, however, that Julie Newmar has not actually seen The Dark Knight Rises.

Bad kitty! Never judge a movie by its trailer alone — right?

Do you agree with Julie Newmar that the Batman series was more fun in her Catwoman days?
